Christkindlmarket Chicago: A Holiday Tradition Returns Near 465 North Park
December 10, 2021You don’t have to travel to Germany this year to experience a traditional German holiday market. That’s one of the greatest things about living in Chicago! Pencil in a visit to the favorite Christkindlmarket Chicago, which has been a holiday staple here in the city since 1996.
As you enter the market, you’ll quickly realize the parallels between this market and traditional German Christmas markets you’ve seen in the photos. You’re greeted by lines of stalls adorned with holiday treats and gifts for all. There is a mix of local and international exhibitors who are selling their handcrafted wares and special goods, perfect for holiday gifts. Plus, you’ll be serenaded by carolers as you browse, which is always festive.
After you’re done shopping for everyone on your list, it’s time to head to the German beer hall, aka the Stammtisch. It’s under a cozy heated tent that’s perfect for enjoying a cozy adult beverage like mulled wine, paired with a pretzel to nibble on. A virtual market just isn’t the same as live in person, so we’re excited to welcome it back with you this year!
